10 Simple & Essential Tips To Keep Your Body Fresh & Hydrated During Summer
Summer is a season of joy and laughter. Spark out the energy in you and follow these 10 tips to make your summer healthy and full of enjoyment.
Without a doubt, Summer is the best season of all. Ice-creams, barbeques, short dresses, long days, pools, warm climate, vacation and what not! Summer is filled with everything you ever need to have a fun time. It’s a perfect time to dig out your favourite swimwear and have some well-deserved chill time on a beautiful beach.
But summer has its downsides too. Summer brings excessive sun exposure, hay fever, dehydration, sweat, and other health woes. So, it is very important to take care of ourselves in that hot-warm weather. Here are 10 simple and essential tips for you to have a happy and healthy summer.
1. Protect your skin
This is a vital part and an important issue to be addressed. Protect your skin from excessive sun exposure.
Use a sun lotion to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. It is recommended to use at least SPF 30 as it blocks 97% of UVB rays, whereas SPF 50 blocks 98%. A mineral-based sunscreen is suited best for sensitive skin.
Avoid sitting in the sun during peak hours (between 10 am to 4 pm) in order to reduce UV radiation.
Use accessories such as a hat that shades your face, ears and neck. Also a pair of sunglasses with lenses that have 99% to 100% UV absorption, which will provide optimal protection for the eyes and the surrounding skin.
2. Drink water — A lot of it!
Drinking lots of water is the best way to stay hydrated during summer. Heat and sweat in hot summer months can leave your body dehydrated. Lack of water in your body is very harmful and can lead to many health conditions that could impact the body functions.
Health professions recommend women to drink at least 11 cups of water a day and 15 cups for men. You can also drink fruit juices or use a slice of lemon in water to add a fresh flavour.
3. Have healthy smoothies
We all know that fruit smoothies are a great way to keep refreshed throughout the summer. But smoothies made with frozen yoghurts, ice cream, or too much fruit contains a lot of hidden calories. Beware of smoothies and it’s better to avoid them completely. Have green smoothies, which are great for your health as they are made of fruits and veggies.
4. Exfoliate your skin
Exfoliation is a process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Summer increases dead skin cells and hence it is important to exfoliate your skin to improve blood circulation and to brighten and improve your skin’s appearance. Face scrubs and brushes are physical exfoliation methods, whereas exfoliators include acids and skin peels.
5. Tackle hay fever
Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, causes signs and symptoms that are similar to cold, such as a runny nose, itchy eyes, congestion and sneezing. Hay fever is caused by an allergic response. It is caused by allergens such as pollen, dust mites, fur or feathers of cats, dogs, and other animals and birds.
This can be avoided by cleaning your home regularly and getting rid of the allergens. Take a shower and change your clothes after you’ve been outside. For worse symptoms, you may need prescribed medications.
6. Keep up the exercise regime
Don’t rush around to hide your running shoes and gym wear. It’s a vacation from a mundane routine but not from the exercise regime. Yes, call it harsh if you want to, but this is it. Workout really well, or take up some ‘moving your body’ classes.
Don’t work out in the scorching heat. Try doing it at 5 am and evening. Drink loads of water, go on biking and remember to wear your SPF!
7. Get swimming!
Who doesn’t love a cool dip in hot surroundings now? Yay, we all love it now. Don’t we? Let’s be the water baby and go hit the pool with alluring costumes. Have a pool party but wait, workout ten minutes before you dive in.
Try various kinds of strokes and float. Floating on water is considered the best therapy to heal our body and relax our mind. Did you know that a 30minute session in the pool burns out 400 calories! I know right. So exciting news. So hit the pool, burn calories and splash some fun.
8. It’s time for Hair Care
Frizzy hair, dull hair and all blew up in the air. Is your hair ruining your photograph? Or is the sun ruining your hair? Well, the sun causes a lot of damage to our hair during summers. Splits, roughness, dryness and sweat collection make you go mad zoo! And don’t even get started about chlorine damages.
The solution: Well, use an amazing shampoo to clear and clean your scalp. Use a generous amount of conditioner and always carry serum with you. Try avoiding heat styling as your hair is already dealing with enough heat.
9. Gulp down the goodies
Summer is so much similar to snacks. Isn’t it? Temptations hit you hard and ice creams are a part of it. In order to treat your tongue don’t burden your health people. A healthy diet a day keeps you fit for years. Grab a sandwich with enough proteins and nutrients. Make it yummy for your tummy and tongue. Grind the smoothies and enjoy the season of blessing. Always carry a bottle of water with you. Keep yourself super hydrated.
10. Building new skills
Rainy isn’t your season to learn new things. Winter is all about being on the bed curled up. But summer, summer is exciting and building. It’s time to learn new skills and develop a new hobby. Go and cook something new. Plant trees and gardens often. Want a stroke-like Picasso? Get going already. Try out those new yoga moves or sign up the meditation class you’ve been longing for.
