Do not limit your kindness to people you know; stray animals deserve it too!

Most of the countries across the globe celebrate November 13 as World Kindness Day “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” While most of us see kindness in a closed context that is associated with human beings, we tend to forget about the other forms of life we share this Earth with. With World Kindness Day close, let us look at some ways to be kind to stray animals. They won’t be able to say it out loud, but they need it the most!

  1. Feed those in need -

If you see a hungry stray, feed it! It is simple and the most fundamental thing we humans need to do to be kind to animals and save them.

2. Leave bowls full of grains and water on your balcony -

Most often than not, we consider only cats, dogs, and cows as strays. While this might make sense, do not forget your chirpy, little friends as you feed your furry strays with bread. Many migrating and local birds die due to the absence of water, food, and shelter every year. Let us do all we can to save them from extinction.

3. Stop using single-use plastic -

Many strays in developing countries die due to choking on single-use plastic. If you cannot help an animal directly, then make it a point to stop using single-use plastic. If using it is inevitable, then dispose of such items responsibly. This indirect act of kindness will save numerous lives. (Also, please stop other people from throwing their garbage out on the roads. It will help the environment too!)

4. Adopt an animal -

If possible, then adopt a stray in need. If adoption is too big a commitment, then just foster a stray. We know that you have an enormous amount of love in your heart; why not shower it on some cute fur-ball.
Added benefit — you will find a loyal best-friend for life!

5. Leave animals in their natural habitat -

Many people have a habit of catching snails, butterflies, fireflies, free birds, and other insects and animals for fun. Such an act takes these animals out of their natural habitat and is harmful to their health. Refrain from such activities and educate the people around you to prevent them from harming these innocent creatures.

6. Provide medical help -

If you see an injured stray, provide medical help to it. You need not physically take it to a vet care, just inform the concerned authorities and pay for the treatment, if need be. If you cannot afford to pay for the treatment, then reporting about the stray to a local shelter or NGO would help too.

7. Stop polluting their habitat -

Pollution kills; period. Just by leading an eco-friendly life, you will be saving hundreds of animals. Also, try to stop using animal products — definitely fur and leather, but also those cosmetic products that test on various animals and kill them in the process. Use cruelty-free products instead!
