All you should know about Organizing your Schedule and Planning your Day!
Planning your day in advance is important for maximum efficiency. Here’s how to go about it!
A few days back, I read our Co-founder Shraddha’s LinkedIn post on planning one’s day. I must say that I was pretty impressed by her thoughts. Getting up in the morning and making a to-do list seemed my kind of a thing, and striking off the completed tasks appealed so much to the Monica inside me that I decided to give it a try too. I was not surprised that I was more efficient than ever. It has just been 3–4 days that I have started doing this, but I think that you all should organize your daily schedules and plan your day too. Hence, this blog!
- Plan your day in advance
The first thing I do in the morning after getting up is looking at my bedhead in the mirror and admiring myself (self-love is important, folks. Also, there’s no hairdresser better than your pillow). But just after that, I pick up my journal and plan my day. Our minds are fresh in the morning and we can easily plan out our tasks, and organize our schedule then.
Some people suggest making a to-do list before going to bed, but it increases my anxiety and makes me think about the next day’s work. So, I prefer reading a children’s book before going to sleep. If you think that making a list before going to sleep will help you better, then go ahead and do it!
2. Categorize your tasks’
There are a lot of things you will be able to think of when you sit down to make a list. I suggest that you list down your tasks according to your deadlines and priorities. Also, do not pile up all your heavy or difficult tasks for a single day. Spread them over a week and choose your daily tasks wisely. This will help you from being overwhelmed and will keep your mental peace preserved.
3. Make groups
Make four columns -
● Daily chores/errands: From grocery shopping to vacuuming your carpet to folding your laundry, your compulsory tasks come under this category. Do write them down, lest you might forget doing them!
● Study/work: All your assignments, readings, meetings — anything related to your office, college, or school — will be written down under this category.
● Health and self-care: I know we all tend to take it easy on our health and self-care when we are swamped with work. DO NOT DO THAT. You need to be healthy and happy to accomplish your goals. If you are not a gym freak (like me), write it down as a task so that you take care of your body too.
● Me- time: This includes whatever you want to do for yourself — cooking, gardening, reading a book, walking your dog, learning a new language, or just surfing the Internet for cute animal videos! YOLO, right? Then why not have some fun every day?
4. Be Practical
Yes, you are a wonder womxn, but that doesn’t mean that you will set unachievable daily goals for yourself. Rest is important, and you mustn’t burn yourself out. You know how much you can handle — plan your day according to your capacity.
Also, do not micro-manage your list with exact time allotments, to allow room for some flexibility. Emergency tasks are real and you need to have some time on your hands if you are given an urgent task without any warning or window-period.
That’s it — literally! That is all you really have to know for a workable and efficient daily planner. Some time-management apps are also available to help you plan your day, but I have been recently told that pen and paper work the best for the human brain. So, I do not use any apps but Google calendar and my phone’s alarm to plan my day. But again, what works for me might not work for you, so use apps if you want to. What matters to me is that you plan efficiently, stick to the plan, achieve all your daily goals, feel like this woman in this warm, orange picture I have attached below, and go to bed in peace!
I hope this blog helps you to organize your day for success. I am more of a ‘ One Day at a Time’ woman so I believe in daily planning. But if you are a person who wants to plan a whole week ahead of time, go do it. Here is an article from The Da Vinci Schedule to help you out!
