Going solo needs more emotional rather than physical independence. Let’s make 2021 the year of emotional liberation!

“As humans and as coexisting beings, we are emotionally dependent on others be it family, friends, partners, peers, etc. But have we ever realized that emotional dependency takes away our freedom because we always seek others to satisfy our emotional urges?”

You may think it’s hard to gather emotional independence especially when we are bonded in close emotional relationships with people. It’s true, being in such bonds default us to have emotionally dependent relations, and changing that is quite nearly impossible. But how about instead of trying to get emotionally independent, we become emotionally liberated.

Quite often we rely on others for the most trivial things like going to a movie, going for a cup of coffee, or even a trip. We think of these things as activities we do with other people and there is a deep-rooted emotional dependency.

When have you ever decided to take yourself out on a solo trip or a solo movie show or a solo fancy dinner? It’s not the lack of resources or financial support that stop us from doing these activities, it’s the lack of liberation that holds us back from doing all this.

Reaching emotional freedom where you are dependent when you have to be but also free with your emotions at times so as to not deprive yourself of any experiences is a process that takes a lot of effort and time.

Think of emotional liberation as self-love. A lot of us often lack this kind of love and hence lack emotional liberation. While we do have a separate identity in society, we often see ourselves get lost in the shadows and lose track of our own selves. We neglect our own needs at times or are just too scared to act upon them.

Start low by letting yourself be more responsive to your own feelings. Don’t cut your feelings off, let yourself feel them let yourself process them. It is an intimate process involving just you and your emotions. The more you let yourself feel things the more you understand yourself and hence the more you clear your mind and slowly begin to become more aware of your own self.

As you start doing this, you would feel conflicted about your feelings, which is a quite natural response. We as emotionally dependent people, often seek validation from others for our emotions that we often forget to seek our own validation.

While we can have empathy, sympathy, a lending hand, an ear to listen for others, we lack the same for our own self. Emotional liberation is the piece to this puzzle that enables one to feel more for themselves and keeping their emotions at the bay.

People who are not emotionally liberated are more than often scared of being by themselves or just doing anything they want by themselves. Hence, as mentioned above, taking a solo trip or going out alone becomes an even harder task for them. They avoid being by themselves and seek company at all times.

This dependency does nothing but makes us more vulnerable. But emotional liberation makes opens up another chapter of the book for us. It makes one more self-aware and reliant while also managing emotional relations with others well.

Emotional liberation is more of a long term process than a task with a concluded end. One seeking emotional liberation will achieve different levels and intensities of it as and when they pass through different stages and phases of life.

Hence starting low and starting small can take you to so many different avenues of life that you may see yourself do things alone and be content with it while also being as content with others. You would see yourself become more clear and in touch with your emotions and hence your emotional dependency will lower down to an emotional coexistence. You will also start putting yourself over others and considering your emotions more often.

Since it is a long term process, emotional liberation leads paths to self-love, self-reliance, independence, and coping techniques that are self-dependent. It is very much the key to self-confidence too. Once you process your own emotions and learn to get that sense of independence, you automatically gain a new sense of self-content and confidence which is a great quality to possess.

After an emotionally draining 2021, a year we spent more looking after others than our own selves, I am sure we are all looking for change where our emotions affect us the least but we still see great emotional development. This 2021, promise yourself to be more emotionally liberated than you were ever before. Let your guard down, let loose, and listen to your own self more than you do to others. Go on that solo trip, go to the movies by yourself, take your own self out on a date, do it. Emotional liberation is a need and it’s here to stay.
