“A mother can take the best care of a child only when her needs are taken care of. A woman needs to take the best care of herself during pregnancy and post -pregnancy because the child survives of what the mother eats and what a mother does.”
One of the things that women hear ever since the day they gain a sense of reliable memory is this- “your life will change when you become a mother. This does not come as a surprise. Bringing a new life into the world comes with its responsibilities and fruitful rewards. You will be filled with abundant and selfless love and also the responsibility for a whole new and fragile life.
But all that is the biology of birth. Love and responsibility are natural and understandable. But what has to change about a woman’s personality and identity after she becomes a mother? Is she even allowed to be herself? Or does this selfless idea of love apply way too literally?
What is it that they do not tell you about being a mother? If you are new to motherhood, prepare yourself to relate and know that you are not alone. If you are an expecting mother, here is what you should know about everything that they do not tell you about being a mother.
1- EVERY DAY IS A HUSTLE, AND THERE IS NO ROOM FOR COMPLAINTS-
Enjoying motherhood comes with its pros and cons. A mother’s grind is always on whether the child is awake or sleeping. A woman has to strike a balance between work- life and home. Along with this, if there is a new little member in the family, it becomes all the more arduous. Entering into motherhood is a demanding full-time job that has to be prioritised, amongst other things. You will realise very soon that functioning on literally no sleep is a real thing. All the more, doing something with a single hand will become your new skill. You will master the art of holding the baby, filling milk bottles, attending phone calls, helping your husband with his wardrobe all at the same time.
2- SELF-LOVE CAN COME WITH SOME GUILT, BUT DO IT ANYWAY-
Self-love is a unique way by which a mother can take time out for herself and to things that can ease out the burden of the responsibilities she has to go back to. So ladies, even if being a mother is a full-time job that requires utmost care and caution, taking some time off to pamper yourself with a spa session or a date night with your girl gang or a road trip will not harm but make you twice as prepared for what’s coming ahead. Initially, you will feel blameworthy of yourself but trust me; it would be the best decision you should take every once in a while. Also, why should boys have all the fun!!!!
3- FOR A CHILD, YOU ARE HER WHOLE WORLD. YOU WILL BE PRESSURED INTO PERFECTION-
Being a mother is an occupying job that thrives off of learning new things every day. You not only learn something for yourself but gain an overall life experience that can be passed on. A child sees the world through the eyes of their mother. So it is of paramount importance for a mother to give her child the best inputs, be it the child’s listening skills, communication skills, comprehension skills, or any other activity of day-to-day life. A
mother has to inculcate a best into a child for him to turn into a great human being.
4- YOUR HEALTH NEEDS EQUAL ATTENTION-
A mother can take the best care of a child only when her needs are taken care of. A woman needs to take the best care of herself during pregnancy and post-pregnancy because the child survives of what the mother eats and what a mother does.
5- YOU ARE ALLOWED TO BE YOU-
REMINDER! With all these loaded responsibilities, never forget to be you. Don’t let the charm of your being fade away because remember that is simply why your family likes you in the first place. Do what makes you happy; it makes the going easy. Always be grateful for what you have and all that is coming. That is specifically why you need to prioritise self-love every once in a while.
Here is all that you needed to do before you enter into motherhood. Trust me, ladies, being a mother is the most pious and selfless thing you will do in your life. And when your tiny tots grow into the best version of themselves, that’s where you will feel rewarded, and all that unconditional love and responsibility will make sense. Don’t forget to enjoy it while you’re at it.
