4. Feeling sad, empty, hopeless, or anxious
5. Loss of interest in activities, avoiding social settings, suicidal thoughts
6. Reduced libido, lack of sexual performance
7. Inability to concentrate, difficulty performing simple tasks, inability to converse
If you are experiencing these symptoms or feel demotivated, there is a chance you could be suffering from depression. We understand that once you get these feelings of hopelessness, it is very difficult to get out of them. However, we have put together an easy guide to help you motivate yourself when you feel depressed so you can continue with your daily life.
Get out of bed
When you feel depressed, the most you feel you can do is stay in bed. However, getting out of bed and out of the clothes you have had on for days is one of the best victories!
Take a shower
Now that you are out of bed, get yourself cleaned up. Brush your teeth, brush your hair, and take a long, hot shower. It will not only make you feel better because you are cleaner, the hot water will also relax your muscles and help you think about something else. The shower will basically help keep you preoccupied.
Eat something
We understand that when you are feeling depressed, you do not feel like eating. However, to get your strength up, it is necessary for you to eat. Even if it is just a few biscuits with your tea/coffee, get it into your stomach!
Get some fresh air
Chances are, you have been holed up in your house for days without getting fresh air or sunlight. Rejuvenate your body by stepping out of the house. You do not need to do anything apart from letting your body soak up some sun rays.
Congratulate yourself
If you have gotten to this last step, congratulate yourself. We know it must have been difficult and we are really proud of you and you should be proud of yourself too!
Take each day one day at a time. There is no need to rush yourself and it is perfectly okay if you still feel like getting back under the covers. Try again tomorrow and again the day after. Keep trying! Good luck and stay positive!
