Winters can be the hardest time to get out of bed. Who wants to get out of that comfortably wrapped blanket and do anything else. But at the end of the day, it’s just a season and the good thing about seasons is that they pass. So while the winter is around, you must know how to take care of yourself at home.

All the ladies who care about their skin and hair and mood will understand why “Winter is coming” means something much more terrible than white walkers for us. Winters are often confusing times when it comes to health and self-care. Around this time, your immunity tends to get weaker, your skin and hair might dry out, your water intake will go down and it is much more difficult to function at a normal level especially if you live in colder places of the world.

But at the end of the day, it’s just a season and the good thing about seasons is that they pass. So while the winter is around, you must know how to take care of yourself at home. Here are a few things you must remember.

1- MAKE SURE YOU ARE HYDRATED- In summers it is not unusual for the scorching sun to dehydrate you and you naturally run to find water without having to be reminded of it. Winters are a little different. You might completely forget to drink water, especially if you live in more humid areas. You might hardly feel thirsty in winters but that doesn’t mean that your body’s water requirements have reduced or gone completely. So you have to remind yourself to drink enough water and not wait for you to feel thirsty.

2- YOUR SKIN IS THE MOST EFFECTED- It’s not an unknown fact that winters are probably the worst time for your skin. Your skin tends to dry and become patchy due to the cold. You must be very careful and apply either essential oils or winter creams to your face. While doing so, make sure to go for a more organic product and avoid any product with harsh chemicals on your face especially in winters. If you wash your face, make sure to moisturize it and do not use this time to avoid sunscreens. They are more important than you think.

3- THE BAD-HAIR SEASON- If there is one thing that women identify within this season the most, it is the perpetual and year old problem of winter and bad hair. Your hair tends to dry out as well and get extremely frizzy. It can get rough and that lack of natural oils in the hair can lead to hair fall and also dandruff. You must remember to give your hair a hot-oil massage now and then and use a paraben and sulfate-free shampoos only and the regular shampoos will only dry your hair out faster.

4- THE IMMUNITY BATTLE- Your immunity suffers too during winter. Since your body temperature goes significantly down, your body becomes a breeding ground for all kinds of viruses and diseases. You might get the flu, cough, or a cold much more easily than you usually would and it is harder than usual for your immunity to work at its maximum capabilities. You must make sure to keep your body warm. Wear a thermal or a sweater even when you are not feeling very cold. Make sure to consume hot beverages like tea or coffee or even drinking warm water now and then will also work.
Or boil some water, add turmeric to it, add some black pepper and crushed ginger to it and then add a spoon of honey and consume this potion twice a day.

5- DO NOT OVERLOAD ON MEDICINES- Do not pop a pill every time you sneeze. It is great to be cautious during winters but your body is still fully equipped to heal itself and you have to allow your immunity to do its job right. As written before keep drinking warm water and get enough rest and see if your body heals itself. In case you get a cold or a fever, observe yourself with adequate nutrition and rest for 24 hours before thinking about medicating yourself. And take good care of your health. Listen to your mother and cover your ears, wear a sweater and gloves if the temperature is too low.

6- GET ACTIVE- Winters can be the hardest time to get out of bed. Who wants to get out of that comfortably wrapped blanket and do anything else. But remember that in winters, it is crucial to get some workout. Go for a walk and f that is too much, get your heart rates up with some floor exercises at home. But it is important to keep moving to pump your blood circulation and make sure that your body temperature is controlled.
