Interview — the most important part of your life and let’s add “difficult” too for it. But guess something even worse than the interview? The pre-interview part. To be specific, we all face obstacles in picking the right attire for the interview. Something that carries your persona. Something that defines your power and wit. A successful job interview depends on how well you dress up. Body language and choice of clothing play a vital role. Appearances can be pulled together with smartness and for that, you need a sorted wardrobe.

So don’t you worry about impressing your manager or perhaps getting the interview all on your side! Here are a few dressing tips that will help you groom yourself and appear posh — because after all, you are your choices!

Research the Officers you are going to interview with. Before you start your own expert advice for yourself, go and research about the office. Look out for people who work there. Check their dressing style and what code they follow. This can be easily determined by stalking their social media profiles or perhaps meeting the people working there. Try contacting the company’s HR dept and get to know more about them.

Men

Beginning with men and their dressing style for the interview. Well, I got two words for you — Business Casuals. Yes, I will elaborate on that. To put in simple words, it is a step up from jeans and a T-shirt and a step down from typical business attire. A default dress code

● Full sleeves collared shirt

A full-sleeved collar shirt pressed neatly and tucked into your pants could do wonders. A knit tie or a simple pattern solid colored tie is completely optional. A sleeveless sweater over a button-down shirt could be layered for a casual business look. Although it’s not mandatory try to layer up with black/grey/blue blazers instead of sweaters.

● Pants

A crisp ironed cotton pant/ light-colored chinos (preferably khaki) are best suited. Pick up colors like grey, black, brown and navy blue. As these pants could match up with any shirt color.

● Shoes

No matter how dearly we have saved the Ferrari edition shoes for a special occasion, it’s not the right time to open them up in an interview. Pick yourself dark-colored polished leather shoes. Picking up loafers could also be a great choice. About the socks, avoid angle length. Wear socks that match the color of your trousers.

● Accessories

Try picking leather or metal band watches and ensure that the leather band matches your shoe color. If you have pierced or wearing any of the earrings, bracelets or necklaces, discard them before the interview. Complement your belt with the color of your shoes.

● Finally — time to rehearse
All set? Let’s rehearse then. Before trying out the outfit directly on the day of the interview it’s better to rehearse two days ahead of the scheduled time. Try the outfit and do a mock interview with your family or friends.

Women
With the variety of options in women’s clothing, women often tend to get confused with what to wear for the interview. First things first. Avoid the fabrics that wrinkle easily and say a big no to oversized sweaters and t-shirts. Second thing, choose clothes that are comfortable and professional.

● Shirts paired with cardigans/ full sleeves t-shirts

A professional pastel-colored shirt paired with a complimenting cardigan would be a best-suited match for the interview. Try pairing up with jackets, if not sweaters. Turtle neck full sleeve t-shirts always work like a charm during an interview.

● Pants/ skirts

Formal ankle-length pants which are neatly ironed would blend well with shirts and full sleeve t-shirts. Navy slacks or pencil skirts would fetch you a professional look on shirts.

●Shoes

Avoid pencil heels or heals in case you are uncomfortable with them. Flat, black, toe pointed shoes or a slighted healed one makes a perfect match for the interview. Remember black is always your color. Socks — avoid them.

● Accessories
Keep your love of accessories at hold while you are walking into an interview. A simple pair of studs for the ears, a plain finger ring (one or two at max), and a decent bracelet/ watch are all you need. If you are wearing a belt, compliment it with your shoes.

Few common tips:
Wear a mild perfume and ensure that it doesn’t come off too strong.
Talk in the accent which is best suited for you. Do not — I repeat, do not try to experiment with different accents just to impress the interviewer.

All set. All the best and go crack it already.
