Missing your Girl Squad? Here is a list of shows with impeccable female bonding!
Female friendships are the best kind of friendships. Yes, we sound biased, but so will you after watching these shows!
Valentine’s Day is a month away, but “we ain’t waiting for it, gurls!” Let people celebrate romance; we all know that there is no love greater than the love of our girl squad. BFFs are not bound by blood or law; yet, they are always there to lend a shoulder when we need it. Isn’t that something worth celebrating?
We have no clue why people talk about catfights and say that a woman cannot help out another woman. At Fuzia, we bust myths, especially those myths that degrade women. So, here is a list of shows with impeccable female bonding.
As Leslie Knope says, let’s celebrate our ladies!
- Alexa and Katie -
This Netflix original revolves around the story of two life-long best friends as they cope with the after-effects of cancer while dealing with their teenage life, college admissions, unique families, and love lives. The girls’ parents are best friends too, but somehow, that is not the coolest part of the show. The most fun part about the series is the tree that joins their houses. If only we could all live a window’s distance away from our best friends! (Ah, unachievable dreams).
2. Grace and Frankie –
Who said you cannot start loving someone after you have hated them for decades?
After their husbands reveal that they are in a relationship with each other and have been hiding their sexualities from their wives for years, both Grace and Frankie move out of their houses to live in the family vacation house their husbands had bought together when posing as best friends. Stark opposites, Grace and Frankie somehow become friends for life and deal with old age while finding the love of their lives in their 70s. Also, they start a successful business together. Aren’t these women inspiring?
3. Parks and Recreation -
What started as a basic government-citizen interaction turned into a beautiful friendship when a local nurse Ann Perkins demanded the deputy director of Parks and recreation of Pawnee to fill in a dangerous pit near her house.
No one loves like Leslie Knope (that woman is more dedicated than Monica and Amy combined and gives perfect parties. Can you even imagine it?), and the love between Ann and Leslie is one of the binding factors of the show — isn’t that how the entire cast came together and we fell in love with the show?
P.S. — if you want to learn how to compliment your best friend, this show should be your go-to guide, you “rainbow infused space unicorn”!
4. Orange Is the New Black -
Poussey and Taystee, in specific, and the women depicted in the show, in particular, set new standards for female friendships in adverse circumstances. We are not going to give you any spoilers as this is not your regular feel-good-show, but give it a watch if you haven’t already.
5. Handmaid’s Tale –
Now, we know that this is not your typical BFF show and might not make it into any other list of a similar kind; but we want to include this Hulu original here for two reasons.
a) We love how Moira and June support one another even when the world is so dark that there is no light to be seen.
b) The women form friendships in dangerous circumstances (not your usual danger; we are talking about handling radioactive waste manually, being hanged in public for saving children from patriarchy, being stoned to death, and chopping off fingers when you try to read), and work together risking their lives to save the lives of others.
This post-apocalyptic show can be pretty dark, but it is a must-watch for every woman out there so that no one can snatch away our rights.
We have so many shows we want to talk about, but we want to hear from you. Let us know in the comments section which shows do you want us to cover, and we will gladly do so.
