I don’t know about you but I personally love these slogans!! It’s the millennial manifesto!
At this time of the year, it’s all about those resolutions. Building a better self is a new age goal. And I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve jumped on the bandwagon and promptly fallen off far too many times. When I was “younger” (though I’m still only in my late 20's), my resolutions were the standard- lose weight, exercise more, eat right, get fit variety. Which actually all boiled down to looking better.
I’ll tell you my experience, I spend the last few weeks of December thinking about all the things I will do differently in the new year and on the 31st I get super drunk, sleep late and wake up on the 1st in the middle of the day, hungover, reach for the closest calorie filled snack and promptly go back to sleep. Back to my feet on the 2nd, I only have dizzying memories of the 31st night and all the things I didn’t stick to on the very first day of the year!! Oh well, what’s done is done, let’s try again next year!!
Haha.
I’ve grown now. Not just by age but also I truly hope in maturity. I think a new year and new me have to go far far beyond just me. Is it enough to look great and be fit? I currently don’t find any physical difficulty in achieving all my goals and am in all medical terms fit. I think I look good, but beauty is subjective and again, only for the beholder. While a large part of the world desperately seeks approval and wallows in insecurity, I think its time to realize that that very world is in need of our help.
So I decided that I want this year to be about being healthy and loving myself, yes, but also to not forget that I belong to a larger scheme of things. We live in a beautiful time where the internet is accessible to everyone and how we use it defines whether it is a blessing or a curse. We are privy to endless information and that information can be used to provide comfort to someone miles away and voice opinions on behalf of those who are unfortunate.
My resolution for 2020 is to use this space to voice opinions. However, a voice can never be a single voice, it needs your support.
I want to hear all about the things that you think deserve focus in the year 2020 in the comments below. As complicated as we are, at the end of the day we all want the same things. I want to use this space to open up discussions to show that although we may have different approaches and ideas, there are so many things that bind us.
I will post a new topic for discussion every week and we can use that week to positively build each other up and explore different schools of thought to not only make this decade but the complex and rather a funny thing called life, a little teeny weeny bit simpler! Together!
Feeling insightful,
Zia
