Want to Get Rid of Dark Circles and Marks? Here are 5 Trusted Hacks
Dark circles are common among both men and women. They can make your face look tired and dull, but are not a serious health problem. It is often believed that dark circles are caused due to tiredness and lack of sleep. Although these are the most common causes, there are several other reasons for dark circles under the eye.
Some common causes include fatigue, age, eye strain, allergies, dehydration, sun overexposure, genetics, iron deficiency and smoking. There are a number of methods that can help people get rid of dark circles or reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. Let’s look at five simple hacks that will help you get rid of dark circles and marks.
1. Get a good night’s sleep
Getting sufficient sleep is very important. We have all had stressful weeks, late-night parties or long trips that resulted in poor sleep. A clear indication of not getting enough sleep is dark under-eye circles, as our skin reflects our poor routines.
Getting a sufficient amount of sleep can help reduce the appearance of dark circles, as lack of sleep causes the skin to appear pale, making the dark under-eye circles more obvious. Dark circles can be prevented from appearing by allowing yourself seven to eight hours of rest.
2. Cucumbers
Cucumbers are not just tasty snacks but are also a perfect solution for dark circles. Applying cucumber slices to the eyes can comfort your tired eyes and reduce swelling. Vitamin K in cucumbers helps increase blood circulation and reduce the clotting of blood. Cucumbers also contain high water and vitamin C that help in nourishing and moisturizing the skin. Chilled slices of cucumber placed on the eyes can get the blood flowing and remove redness.
3. Teabags
Teabags can help reduce dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. Tea contains caffeine that has antioxidant properties which is beneficial for the entire body including dark circles under the eyes. Caffeine stimulates blood circulation around the eyes.
Take two tea bags and boil them in water before placing them in the refrigerator to let them cool. Putting the boiled tea bags in the refrigerator first adds a cooling effect to the eyes. After the tea bags are chilled, drain the excess water from the bags and place them over the eyes. We can make use of black, green or herbal tea bags.
4. Potatoes
Potatoes are a great substitute if you don’t have any cucumbers in your refrigerator to treat your under-eye dark circles. The presence of vitamin C, an antioxidant in potatoes is known to treat eye diseases, cancer and the common cold. This repairs the damaged skin cells and reduces the production of melanin, which is one of the main causes of dark circles. Peel the skin off the potato and wash it thoroughly. Later, cut it into thin slices and place a slice of potato over each eye.
Another way of using a potato is to make raw potato juice. Potato juice also works as a skin whitening agent. Peel a potato and grate it into slices before squeezing the juice out of it. Store this in the refrigerator for an hour, then dip a cotton ball in the juice and apply it on the dark circles under the eye. Leave it for 15–20 minutes before washing your eyes with cold water. Repeat this every day to get the desired results.
5. Rosewater
Rosewater is aromatic, flavoured water that is prepared by soaking rose petals in clean water. Rosewater has proven to be an anti-inflammatory product that not just immensely soothes our skin, but also provides our eyes with a lot of benefits. Rosewater is considered to be a great skin whitening agent for your dark circles. Rosewater can be purchased at any beauty store or can be prepared at home by boiling pink rose in water. Soak cotton balls in a bowl of rosewater for about 20–25 minutes, place them under your eyes for sometime before rinsing off with cold water.
Few other important tips could be to apply sunscreen to reduce the effect of over-exposure to the sun as it is one of the causes of dark circles. Wearing sunglasses would help too. Reduce alcohol consumption as it weakens your immune system and dehydrates your body.
