Workload, eye strain and what not? We are surrounded by technology but are we taking care of this biology? Eyes are a vital human organ and exposure to screen and blue rays cause harm and a lot of strain. Want to prevent strain on eyes? Keep reading!

“But look, I have to use it, without my ‘phone’ how will I work, or survive perhaps!”

Yes Karen, I understand. Technology has become our daily oxygen. Staring at a screen and working while on it is stressful to the eyes. Especially during this pandemic where you can’t even step out and get exposed to different surroundings for work. Eye strain is caused by prolonged visual exposure. Our eyes work so much for us. They read for us, understand for us and recognize for us! This causes heavy strain and you diagnose yourself with a number for your beautiful pair of eyes. So how do we tackle this situation? Now, I’m gonna present you with a few quick exercises which will help you relax your eyes and continue your work in a healthy way. If the world outside is locked, let’s build new habits with what we have. Shall we delve in already?

So I’m going to introduce you to “lazy eye yoga” exercises! Yes, you read it right. Without hustle but proven results -

1. Make ’em roll

Roll your eyes, up and down. Isn’t it fun? Well let me add a bonus, it relieves your eye muscles too. Lifting dumbells at the gym helps you tone your body, roaring eyes tones the eye. Simple right? Yet so beneficial. Now that it looks simple for you, let me tell you, this exercise is to be performed while keeping your spinal cord super erect and your head straight. First, rotate your head and relieve neck muscles — slowly. Then rotate your eyes upward, left to right and right to left for 5 repetitions. Rotate downwards in the same way. Sim for doing such 10 times a day. Remember to shut your screen down while performing this exercise.

2. The Eye Press

Close your eyes, now inhale. Real deep. Hold it for a while and exhale slowly.

Slowly place your fingers on the eyelids. Put a slight pressure above your eyelids, ensure that you don’t press hard and land up in different damage. Do this for 15 seconds and then slowly let it go. Open your eyes and wait till you gain a clear vision before resuming your screen time. Do this every 1 hour for relief to your eyes!

3. Palming

Palming is considered as one of the best exercises for easing your eyes. It’s like you’re carrying a free masseuse with you. Your palms work like a charm when compressed against your eyes. Rubs your palms and place them on your eyes for 30 seconds. The warmth of your hands gently softens the eye muscles and helps them lighten up the rigidity filled in. Place your palms till the heat is absorbed by your eyes. Repeat the process 3 continuous times whenever you do it.

4. Zooming

This exercise is proven effective on a massive scale to screen users. The zooming exercise is also followed by many Yoga Clubs. To do this exercise sit on a chair straight, keep your legs grounded, spine erect. Stretch out your arm and hold your thumb up by closing the rest fingers. Align your thumb at nose level and bring it forward. Follow this to and fro movement for 10 times at least.
This not only helps you with concentration but also relaxes your eyes.

5. Figure Eights

You know the drill, sit on the chair, feet grounded. Why am I repeating this? Well, it’s the small things that play a big role! So spine erect and lift your right hand. Place your hand straight and keep looking at your thumb.
Now rotate your thumb in an ‘infinity’ symbolic way. This should be done while your arm is straight. Don’t bend your elbow. Repeat this in clockwise and anticlockwise directions respectively. Follow this for 5 times straight. Repeat this with the left hand!

6. Slow Blink

You ain’t supposed to behave like the character from the movie PK here! Blink people! Did you know that while you stare at the screen your blinking activity reduces up to half of your normal blinks? Well, the truth is now spoken. I meant, written! So what I’m meaning to convey is that please blink often. Remind yourself to blink slowly. Blinking lubricates your eyes and keeps them from drying. It acts as a natural moisturizer for your eyes. This exercise helps you keep a healthy pair of eyes. So take a break every 20 minutes of your screen time, turn your chair facing the wall and look at it. Blink slowly, close your eyes for 10 seconds and open. Blink again. Continue this 20 times in a row. Your eyes feel refreshed and more lubricated with every blink.

Your eyes are a beautiful part of the entire body. They are the ones which define beauty to you, who speak colors to you, who convey emotions for you. Let’s take care of them by following these simple six steps. Also, keep yourself hydrated. Drink lots of water and consume fruits. Crunching carrots helps with eye problems. Consult an ophthalmologist if you can’t see the screen clear. Don’t neglect it. Digital eye strain is common to everyone, let’s wage a goodbye to strain and headaches. Take care and be aware!
