Whom To Believe? Dreams Or Society? Let’s Unravel This Common Battle
“Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one less travelled by, and that made all the difference!”
Remember these verses? Penned by the mighty Robert Frost. Every time I read this poem, I’m in tears. Not emotional, but self-empowered. He paid the cost and he travelled a path that made him a writer. A writer who changed people’s lives forever. What are these Dreams? Where do they come from? And why do they suddenly become our life?
Dreams are the calling of your higher self. It’s you being in alignment with the universe itself. According to a theory, coincidences don’t exist and dreams ain’t just dreams if you remember them, if they drive your sleep away. Now haven’t you heard people say “Follow your dreams!”? Well, let me introduce you to reality. They don’t SUPPORT it! We don’t have to pay tax every time we open our mouth, so we just say what pleases us at that moment. Do we actually support people in following their dreams? Or are we the crabs who keep crawling and pulling each other down? I’d agree with the latter one with the controversies I have been hearing lately!
Responsibilities won’t be met if you chase your dream! — they say so. Has society ever fulfilled its responsibility to support your dreams? Instead, they have silenced your screams. ‘Pay the bills, life’s not too big to follow your petty dreams. Become this, do that, fit the square box, we don’t care if you are an oval.’
Huh, tired of this. Ain’t you? Now let’s shift our gears and have a talk to ourselves. Introspect within. Why is that heart beating? It’s for the dream which is to be met by you. It’s your destiny, it’s the sole reason you are alive and kicking!
Speaking of which, let me introduce you to the world where you fight tooth and nail with society and nevertheless you pursue your dreams. Here we go-
● Life becomes WORTH LIVING — Now that you are happy and content with what you do, you enjoy every day. You don’t care how small your pay is, you measure how huge your happiness is.
● Your vibe builds your tribe — You are now surrounded by people who are dreamers, seekers. Often what you seek, is seeking you. So, while you are on this journey of self-discovery, you meet people with ideas that match yours. You feel home in them!
● Zero regrets — It’s not as small as you think it is. Having regrets is heavy, it’s burdening and only those who are bearing this know how heavy it is. There was an old man once, people around him were very happy and content. He was on his deathbed and he called out his son and said “I have sinned, I have sinned for I have made them happy but now as I’m leaving, I’m regretting the decisions I made. I didn’t live my dream but Son, I want you to live yours. Promise me that you will” and he departed. So, when you follow your dreams, you don’t regret it. Instead, you are PROUD!
● Life becomes an inspiration — Once you make your path and break the cycle. Others have hope that they too can. You motivate them in several unknown ways by just moving forward on your own path. Isn’t it inspiring to have been uplifting others while just being your own true self?
● Every day you learn — The choices we make have certain consequences. When we choose our dreams, we choose the hustle too. The late nights, the hurdles, the setbacks, but guess what? You learn. With every fall you learn how to rise. You start answering every setback with a comeback!
Go live your dreams pal, the society may talk today, tomorrow, but eventually, they’ll forget it. Don’t let this fear consume you to be who you are meant to be. Great things come with great sacrifices. In the battle of dreams and society, I hope you get the courage to choose your dreams and live your life to the fullest. Remember one thing, When death finds you, let it find you alive! Keep chasing your dreams for there is no sun without the heat!
